6 Sandhoppers and 4 dinghies (3 from Harlow) took part in the Mayland Mug on Sunday 1st June. It was not a good attendance but it was a late afternoon race and strong gusts were expected.
It was a lovely site as the boats sailed on a run with spinnakers flying up Lawling Creek. Aeolus slipped to the back as it got in a mess with it's spinnaker. the dinghies disappeared ahead and the Sandhoppers fought it ou on the beat to Coopers. Instructions were passed by radio and support boat to take Mundon Pt3 to Starboard. This caused some confusion as it was only in the course for the 2nd lap. Aeolus made up ground helped by this and was soon behind the lead sandhopper. Meanwhile a laser got in trouble when its rudder broke and was attended to by a support boat. The dinghies raced ahead down the creek as a the 2 lead Sandhoppers were in close contact heading for the finish. The other Sandhoppers were closing from behind but unfortunately Sandspirit missed out a mark. Aeolus finished seconds ahead of Undine but 4th overall. Mark Batt (Fireball) finished 1st ahead of Dean Saxton (Phantom) and Barry Knights (Laser).
A video taken from Aeolus is on Youtube and the results can be found on the results link.
