Commodores Sailing Shorts -Welcome to 2019

We hope you all had a great festive break and welcomed in the new year in fine style. It was great to see many of you at the prize giving dinner and the Xmas party. The sailing season ended on a high for Paul and Sally Gray winning both the winter series and the Blackwater Icicle race. The Icicle race attracts experienced quality sailors from around the Essex rivers. In recent years the trophy has been won by a visiting boat and it is 45 years since Paul's Dad Bill Gray won the trophy. Congratulations to Paul and Sally.

The winter series attracted over 30 boats and was very competitive. Paul and Sally won by one point from Glen Enkel and Celie Broomfield, both in Kestrels which are making a comeback at the club.

Kitchen and Winch

There is no connection between the two except they are being refurbished. Bill and Neil will be refurbish the kitchen with a larger cooker, relocated sink and drainer, new cupboards. The work should start next week and take a couple of weeks.

The winch was repaired last year after an electrical failure however it was noticed that the mounting frame was badly corroded. Mike, Peter and Adrian will be manufacturing and fitting a new frame.

2019 Sailing Programme

This is coming together and will as usual give plenty of opportunities for sailing. The season will start in mid to late March. There will the usual mix of racing and training. Dinghy racing will be joint with Harlow. Maylandsea Bay Week is week commencing 29th July.  The push the boat out open day for family and friends will be in mid May.

A new feature will be Saturday evening socials after sailing at the club. Please come along and support these events being led by Paul Gray.

The programme should be available on line in early February. It will include the usual range of duties and we are looking to invest in a programme which allows members to go on line and swap duties more easily and will send out reminders by text.

Happy New Year
